Celebrating the Meelad
Meelad" (also known as Mawlid or Milad) refers to the celebration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is observed by many Muslims around the world with gatherings that include recitations of the Quran, naats (Islamic poetry in praise of the Prophet), lectures on his life and teachings, and charitable acts.
Types of Meelad Celebrations:
Religious Gatherings – People assemble in mosques or homes to listen to sermons about the Prophet’s life and virtues.
Processions & Parades – Some communities hold public processions with banners, lights, and Islamic chants.
Quran Recitation & Naats – Special sessions are organized to recite the Quran and sing naats in praise of the Prophet.
Charity & Feeding the Poor – Many distribute food and perform acts of charity as a way to express gratitude and devotion.
Decorations & Illumination – Mosques, streets, and homes are often adorned with lights and banners.
