Inno vation: Bidat in Islam

(0 review)

Innovation (Bid’ah) in Islam – Description

In Islam, Bid’ah (innovation) refers to introducing new practices, beliefs, or rituals into the religion that have no basis in the Quran or Sunnah. It is generally viewed as a deviation from the authentic teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and can lead people away from true Islamic principles.

Types of Bid’ah:

  1. Bid’ah Hasanah (Good Innovation): Some scholars classify certain beneficial innovations (such as advancements in technology, education, or administration) as permissible, as long as they do not contradict Islamic teachings.

  2. Bid’ah Dalaalah (Misguided Innovation): Any religious practice or belief not found in Islam that alters worship or faith is considered misguidance and is rejected.

Islamic Perspective:

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

"Every innovation (Bid’ah) is misguidance, and every misguidance leads to the Hellfire." (Sunan an-Nasa’i)

Muslims are encouraged to follow the Quran and Sunnah strictly and avoid adding new religious practices. However, worldly innovations that benefit society (like medical advancements) are not considered Bid’ah in the religious sense.
